Do No Harm

We open right where we left off last episode, with Jack working on Boone. Everyone crowds around, trying to see. Jack asks Sun to help him, she steps right up. e asks Kate to go to the beach and get alcohol from Sawyer. Boone starts gasping, and Jack realizes his lung collapsed. He jams a hole into Boone’s chest to open up a chest tube.  

--flashback— 

Jack is helping a friend get into some formal wear. The friend is clearly nervous about making a speech. Jack tells him he can still back out. The friend says no. A tailor comes in, and says it’s now the groom’s term, and it’s apparent Jack is a groom. 

Caves. Jack realizes Boone has lost a lot of blood. He tells Boone that he’s going to save him. 

--commercial break- 

Beach. Claire walks up to Sawyer, who offers her some fish. She declines, and asks Michael how long it’ll be until the raft is ready. He says about a week. She looks a little uncomfortable, and Michael asks if she’s okay. She says yeah, and walks off. 

Kate rushes up and asks for Sawyer’s alcohol stash. She explains to him what happened. He offers to come with her, but she politely declines. 

Caves. Jack is sewing up Boone’s chest wounds. He says Boone needs a blood transfusion. Then goes to set Boone’s broken leg. Sun says she’ll do it, and tells Jack to get some air. 

Charlie approaches and asks how Boone is, and badgers Jack about where Locke and Shannon are. Jack angrily blows him off 

--flashback— 

Hotel banquet room. Jack’s friend introduces Jack’s fiancee, Sarah. She tells a story about how Jack saved her after a car accident. She talks about how she fell in love with him because he’s so committed. He looks on, a little uncomfortable. 

Caves. Jack is back. Sun offers him a stick for Boone’s pain. He says they’re beyond herbal remedies. She says it’s not a remedy, and then puts the stick between Boone’s teeth. Sun holds his shoulders and Jack yanks, to set the leg. Boone screams. 

Trail. Kate is running back and stumbles, breaking some of the bottles. She hears a noise in the brush and goes to see. She comes upon Claire, bent over in pain. Claire tells her to go away. Kate realizes Claire is having the baby. 

--commercial break-- 

Kate tells Claire she needs to get her back to camp. Claire’s in denial about her contractions, but she can’t move. Kate yells for help. Jin, on the beach, working on the raft alone, hears her and rushes to them. Kate tries to tell him they need Jack. She hands him the bag. He understands.  

Caves. Jack gets Sun to ask Boone what his blood type is. Jack is frustrated, trying to find something he can use as a transfusion needle. Boone finally says his type is A neg. Jack tells Sun to go find someone with that blood type, and to find Shannon. She rushes off. 

Jungle. Shannon and Sayid are walking, Sayid leading. Shannon asks if they’re lost. Sayid says no, then teases a bit about whether he really is. She follows him out to a section of beach where Sayid has set up a romantic picnic. 

Caves. Charlie comes charging in, telling Jack about the very few blood types he found. None of them are a match. Jack asks if there was any O neg, and there wasn’t. He wonders where Sun is. She finally comes in. She says she didn’t find Shannon, but she holds up a sea urchin. She breaks off a spine, to use as a needle. Charlie asks if they have anyone with O neg. Jack says he does. He says it’s not a perfect match, and that Boone could go into shock. Charlie asks if he’ll die. Jack says he won’t. 

--flashback—

Jack is in the hotel lobby, playing the piano. His fiancee comes up to him, and they start playing together. She tells him that they don’t have to do this if he doesn’t want to. He insists that he wants to. It becomes apparent she’s just talking about writing their vows. Jack looks out to the parking lot. She tells him “he’ll come.” She tells him she’ll be waiting for him upstairs when he’s ready. He looks after her and sighs heavily. 

Caves. Jin dashes in with the alcohol. He sees that Jack is in the middle of the transfusion. Jin tries to explain what’s going on with Claire. Sun reluctantly translates. Charlie, anxiously looking on, decides they should go help. Jack explains to Charlie that he needs to tell Kate what to do to deliver the baby.  

--commercial break— 

Clearing, night. Claire says the contractions have stopped. Kate is suspicious. Claire stands up, and there’s a rush of water. Kate realizes her water has broken. They both panic a little. 

Caves. The transfusion is done, and Boone starts talking a little. He explains a little bit about what happened, with the plane falling on him, that he didn’t fall off a cliff like Locke said. He says Locke said not to tell about the hatch. Jack tries to get him to tell more, but Boone passes out.  

Sayid’s little picnic. Shannon and Sayid are kissing. They stop, and Shannon explains about Boone, and about how he’s in love with her. Sayid asks if she feels the same way. She says no, but that since they’re there for who knows how long, and so is Boone, that she needs to take things slowly. Sayid says he’s okay with that.  

Clearing. Charlie and Jin arrive with supplies. Charlie explains to Kate that she has to do the delivery. She freaks, but he reassures her. Jin tries to comfort Claire. She says she was out there for so long, and she can’t remember anything, and wonders if they did something to her baby. She says she’s just not ready for this. Kate comes over and says she’s scared, too, but they’ll get through it. 

Caves. Jack realizes that Boone is fading. He looks at Boone’s leg, which has swollen up. Sun comes up and says the transfusion must not be working. Jack says the blood is pooling there, because something has crushed his leg. He goes to try to give Boone more blood and Sun stops him, realizing he’s getting woozy. Jack goes up to Hurley and tells him to get Michael.  

--flashback— 

Jack is drinking by the pool. His dad finally arrives and sits down next to him. He grabs the bottle and starts drinking from it. He takes a piece of paper from Jack, which has Sarah’s vows on it. He reads off some rather florid words. Jack says he can’t write his. His dad asks if he loves her, and if so, why is he sitting alone by the pool. Jack says he’s worried about being a husband and father, and wonders if he asked her because he saved her life. He asks if he should marry her. His dad tells him that commitment is Jack’s strong point, but his problem is that he can’t let go. 

Caves. Michael has come in with a cargo container. Jack explains to Michael about how the crushed leg is making things worse, and they need to amputate. The door on the cargo container looks to be able to do the job. 

Clearing. Claire’s ready to start pushing, but she holds her breath. Kate freaks out. She tells Claire that this is happening, there’s nothing she can do to stop it. Claire says she knows the baby isn’t going to want her because she was going to give it away. Kate asks her if she wants the baby now, if she wants it to be healthy and safe. Claire nods. Kate says she’s not alone, that everyone there supports her. Claire starts to push. Charlie and Jin look on, bewildered and a little freaked out.  

Caves. Sun gives Boone some water. He coughs, and coughs up blood. Sun points this out to Jack. He and Michael start moving Boone over to the cargo container. Sun pleads with him, telling him it won’t work, that Boone is bleeding internally and he can’t be saved. Jack ignores her. He gets ready to use the makeshift guillotine. He sends Michael away. He looks up at Sun, who silently pleads with him to not do this. He raises the door… 

--flashback— 

Ceremony. Sarah says her overly-mushy vows. Jack starts to say his. He’s nervous, and can’t speak. He says he can’t write anything, and starts talking about how he realized why he couldn’t do it. He talks about how he’s afraid of letting go, and failing. Then he shifts gears, and says that she had it backwards—he didn’t fix her, she fixed him. He says he loves her and always will. They kiss. Jack’s father looks on.  

Caves. Boone wakes up enough and tells Jack to wait. Jack says he has to. Boone says he’s all messed up inside and Jack knows it. He says there’s no chance. Jack says he’s not going to let him give up. Boone says he knows Jack made a promise, but he’s letting him off the hook. He tells Jack to let him go. Jack finally stops, and tells Boone he’s sorry. Boone tells him not to be. 

Clearing. Claire is screaming and pushing, and finally spits out the sprog. Kate hands Claire her new son. Claire does the freaky happy crying mommy thing. Charlie grabs Jin for a big bear hug.  

Caves. Jack lays Boone down to rest, away from the container. Boone’s breathing becomes labored. He tells Jack to tell Shannon… Tell her… and then he slips away.

--commercial break— 

Beach, morning. Silently under a mournful soundtrack, Claire and co show off the new baby to the rest of the gang. Hurley taps Jack on the shoulder, as he sees Sayid and Shannon coming up the beach. Jack walks over to them, shaking his head. 

Caves. Shannon sobs over Boone’s body.  

Beach. Kate approaches Jack, who is sitting silently by a tree, packing a backpack. She asks if he wants to talk about it. He asks her about what. She says about Boone dying. Jack says Boone didn’t die, he was murdered. He gets up and stalks off. Kate asks where he’s going. He says to find Locke.
