Episode Fifteen Charlie clips and caps of this episode up at Beyond Grey
Homecoming No eyeball today, just the face of sleeping Charlie, who is presently awakened by the hubbub surrounding Claire’s return. She’s unconscious, and the gang at the caves crowds around. Jack and Charlie push the others back and rush to her side. She wakes up, screams and runs away, backing into a corner, clutching her belly. She’s scared, and says she doesn’t know anyone. --commerical break— Jack and Charlie are calmly talking to Claire, asking her about Ethan. She says she doesn’t remember anything. The last thing she rememebers is being on the flight. They explain about the crash, etc. Jack tells her her baby is fine. She asks why, if it’s been a month, no one’s come to get them. They don’t answer. Aside, Jin is asking Sun how she thinks Claire is doing. He seems suspicious that she knows more than they can tell with their language barrier. Boone asks Locke whether he thinks Claire escaped. Locke says he doesn’t know. They talk a bit about Ethan, and say they hope he’s not around. Charlie hands Claire her journal, suggesting it might help her remember. He tries to re-familiarize her with her surroundings, and explains that he was taken at the same time she was. She asks who Ethan is, Charlie shrugs and says he’s the bad guy. Charlie charms her, and says he’ll stay by her. She asks whether they’re friends, and he smiles and says yes. --flashback— Charlie and a lowlife buddy, Tommy, are in an alleyway, snorting. Tommy reminds Charlie that they’re running low on stash and money, and suggests that they put Charlie to “work” A bar. Tommy points out a young woman, whom he explains is the daughter of a wealthy businessman. He pushes Charlie into service. “You All Everybody” gets selected on the jukebox, and Charlie goes to work, chatting up the rich girl and her friends while Tommy looks on from a safe distance. Beach: Sayid, Locke, Charlie and Jack are trying to decide what Ethan’s plan is. Sayid, to Charlie’s protest, suggests Claire was sent back, noting how rare actual amnesia is. Jack says he thinks Claire’s memory loss is really. Charlie storms off, to talk to her. On his way back, he runs into Jin, and babbles at him about how nice it must be to not speak English, and not have to worry about what’s going on around them. An odd sound makes them pause. Suddenly, Jin is clocked with a stone. Ethan comes out of the jungle, carrying a sling. He attacks Charlie, grabbing him by the neck, and pinning him to a tree. He demands that Charlie bring Claire back, saying he’s going to kill one castaway at a time until Charlie brings her to him, and that he’ll kill Charlie last. He walks away, and Charlie sinks to the ground, coughing. --commercial break— Beach. Charlie’s telling Locke and Jack what happened, and that they should track Ethan down. Locke says that’s a bad idea, and after some wrangling, they agree they should tell the whole group, so they can set up security. Caves: Sun is tending to Jin’s wound. He complains that he was attacked because of what the others have done. Clearing: Claire tells Charlie that the others are avoiding her, as if they know something she doesn’t. She says she still doesn’t remember anything. She asks him if he’s sure there’s nothing going on. He lies and says no. --flashback— Charlie and his mark are in her home. He’s charming, and asks about her father. He cases the place as she gets tea. He takes particular notice of a cigarette case. She tells him it belonged to Winston Churchill, and that her father collects old posessions of great leaders. She tells Charlie he ought to meet her father. He agrees to come for dinner the next night. Caves: Jack is sharpening a knife. Kate brings him a piece of fruit. She sits down and says maybe it would be a good idea if they broke out the guns from the marshall’s case. Jack says no, that he isn’t putting guns in untrained hands because it’s too risky. Beach. Locke, Boone and Sayid are setting up an alarm system. Boone agrees, to Sayid’s concern, to take a sentry duty shift. Locke is more optimistic about Boone’s ability. Night, caves. Charlie suggests to Jack that Claire should be moved, so she’s safer. He starts babbling about how he was responsbile for her, and he should’ve made sure nothing happened to her. Jack reassures him. Charlie looks worriedly over at sleeping Claire. --flashback— Dinner at the mark’s house. Daddy talks about how he used to be in a band, but gave it up when his daughter was on the way. Charlie admits that the band is on hiatus and probably won’t get back together, as he and his brother are estranged. Later, at the bar, Charlie tells Tommy he took a job from the girl’s father. Tommy rants about this, insulting Charlie’s new girlfriend, whom Charlie defends. Tommy complains that Charlie needs to keep up his end of the plan to steal something. Charlie tells him he’s trying to think of his future without his brother. Tommy asks how Charlie’s going to do at work on Monday with two days off of his drugs. Beach, night: Boone is on sentry duty. He starts getting sleepy. Morning. Boone is woken by their makeshift alarm system. He stumbles around, looking for who tripped the alarm. --commercial break— Boone is tearing through the jungle, looking for their intruder. He stumbles and finds… Vincent. Locke and Sayid rush to him. Suddenly, a scream. Back on the beach, there’s a dead castaway. They try to figure out how Ethan got past them. Locke looks to the ocean. Charlie, Kate and Hurley are looking on as the rest of the gang hauls the body away, wondering out loud how Ethan got through their defenses. Kate says Locke said Ethan came in from the water. Hurley asks whether the dead castaway drowned, maybe. Kate says he had many bones broken. Hurley and a clearly disgruntled Charlie walk off. Sawyer walks past, commenting about how “Steve” bought it. Hurley tells him that was Scott. Afternoon. The gang have a funeral for Scott and apologize for confusing him with Steve. Caves. Claire again notices people are avoiding her. She approaches Shannon and asks why people are staring at her. She confronts Shannon about the staring. Shannon realizes no-one’s told Claire what was going on. Claire storms up to Charlie, mad at him for lying to her. He says he just wanted to take care of her. She says she can take care of herself. --flashback— Charlie is cleaned up, in a suit his girl has bought him. He’s sweating, clearly having withdrawals. She asks what’s wrong, he says he’s just nervous. She assures him that things will be okay, and that her dad’s already assured a sale. She asks if he’s memorized the manual, and he recites a sales phrase. She says he’ll do great. She runs off, to get him something. He spies the cigarette case, and while she’s gone, he pinches it and stashes it in his jacket. She returns, and presents him with a briefcase. He says he needs to get to work, she says she’s taking him. He swallows hard and follows her.
Caves. Jack tells Locke to follow him. Jack asks if Locke can track Ethan. He reminds Jack that they are at a disadvantage on Ethan’s turf. Jack says he can get the advantage back. He takes the key from around his neck and walks to where the case with the guns is stashed. Jack says he assumes Locke knows how to handle a gun and hands him one. Locke demonstrates that he does, grinning. --commercial break— Caves. Charlie is arguing with the gang about a plan. Claire says she can speak for herself. He tells her they want to use her as bait. She says, while she still doesn’t remember, she has to do this, to help spare any others. Charlie insists on coming with them, and asks for one of the guns. Locke asks if he’s ever fired a gun. Charlie says nothing. Jack says they need to plan and he, Locke and Sayid wander off, leaving Charlie frustrated. --flashback— Charlie is in a conference room, trying to demonstrate a copier. It doesn’t work. He fusses, getting more and more sweaty and uncomfortable, and gets nowhere. Momentarily, he starts getting sick, and upchucks into the copier. Caves: Locke tells Jack and Sayid that they should have four people for the four guns. Beach: Jack asks Sawyer if he knows how to handle a gun. He agrees, and takes the spare gun from Jack. Kate, looking on, says she wants to come. Jack says they’re out of guns, and he doesn’t want anyone unarmed out there. He starts to walk off. Sawyer asks how much ammo they have, and notes that it’s all 9mm shells, the same model as the gun he’d used to shoot the marshall. He hands the spare gun to Kate. Afternoon. The gang are gathering on the beach, planning. Sayid reminds them that guns are the last resort, they want Ethan alive. They prepare to go into the jungle. Charlie looks on, frustrated. Dusk, rain pouring down. Claire is in the clearing. The others are hiding out in their positions, watching. Ethan finally approaches. Claire screams, taking off with Ethan in hot pursuit. --commercial break-- Claire is being chased. Suddenly, Ethan is tackled by Jack. They tussle, Jack loses his gun. Ethan starts kicking the crap out of Jack. The others finally arrive, and help Jack subdue Ethan. Claire stands aside, terrified. Sayid reminds everyone to hold their fire. Ethan gets to his knees. Sawyer aims the gun at him, warning him to stay still. Suddenly, several shots ring out, and Ethan falls, with several perfectly-placed shots to his chest. The gang are stunned and look over to see Charlie, expertly holding the gun Jack had lost. He lowers the gun, as they stare at him. Night, caves. Charlie is sitting alone. Jack comes to sit next to him. He asks why Charlie did it. He says Ethan deserved to die. Jack reminds him that Ethan could’ve maybe told them something about who he was and where he came from. Charlie questions whether Ethan would’ve told them anything. He fixes a steely gaze on Jack, and says that he wasn’t going to let that animal near Claire again. --flashback— Charlie is knocking on the rich girl’s door. He apologizes, says he wants to explain. She’s having nothing of it, saying she’d found out that he’d tried to steal. She lays into him and shoves him back. She says the only thing she doesn’t understand is why he took the job. Humbled, he looks gently at her, and says he wanted to be respectable, and wanted her to think he could take care of her. She says he’ll never take care of anyone, and slams the door in his face. Caves. The camera pans to various couples. Charlie is alone. Claire approaches him. She says she remembers peanut butter, and doesn’t understand that. Charlie smiles and explains that it was imaginary peanut butter. She says she still doesn’t know what happened to her, and that she’s scared. She says she wants to trust him. He looks at her longingly. She tells him good night. He says good night back, and watches, sadly, as she walks away. --end episode 15--
